About SoulPlay
Founder, artist and owner Michael Dawson orginally conceptualized SoulPlay nearly ten years ago, only as a dance company instead of the digital video, effects and design entity it is now.
Mike's background in music and dance is evident in the work he has done with SoulPlay Productions so far.
He has done commercial video work for Polaris Dance Theatre and the affiliated Polaris Contemporary Dance Center, including a Comcast-aired television commercial and a promotional video for the theater production "iChange".
Other examples of his video editing work include promotional material for hip-hop dance instructor and choreographer Mariecella Devine, of Devine Funk, and a short, six-part movie entitled "Souvenirs of Portland", featuring local Portland pianists Timothy and Nancy LeRoi-Nickel and the music of composer Samuel Barber.
Aside from video editing and compositing, Mike Dawson and SoulPlay Productions conceptualized and mixed the soundtracks for A-WOL Dance Collective's Art in the Dark II and III shows, mixed the music for the Multnomah Athletic Club's Synchronized Swimming Department and their performance routines, and mixed music for and choreographed dance routines at several high schools in the greater Portland metropolitan area.
The methods, tools, techniques and/or skills used by SoulPlay Productions range from video editing, tracking, greenscreen, rotoscoping, motion graphics, 3D modeling and compositing to simple vector artwork, software synthesizers, drum machines and screen printing. If Mike doesn't know how to do it, he probably wants to learn.
