Light Wellness Greece Retreat Flyer

Flyer for the 2018 Light Wellness Greece Retreat.

Nutrition Website Banner

I needed to create a banner for the Nutrition portion of the Light Wellness website, and the client wanted it to match the other banners on the site. We didn't have access to the original photoshoot location, so I had to get creative. This video breaks down most of the compositing process.

Universe

I've always relished the idea of emulating different movie studio intros, such as the well-known classic and modernized versions from Universal Studios. This is what happened, so far, with that idea. I never could have anticipated this outcome. The video includes excerpts from The Great Dictator (Chaplin) and Pale Blue Dot (Sagan), with pieces of music by The Knife.

Nebula

Aside from the music, which was composed in Logic, this was all generated, comped and rendered using Adobe After Effects.

Monochromatic

This one brought me back, to my early days of perspective drawing and drafting. The "M" was created entirely in Adobe Line, on my iPad. I saved-out multiple pieces of the image, and then assembled it all in PS. I appreciate that it somewhat looks like I colored it with a felt tip pen, on real paper.

Liquid L

Geometry triangulated and exported from Maya. Particles/fluid animated in Real Flow and rendered using Maxwell. Audio in Logic X.

Keepin it Real

I took a pre-modeled and rigged, 3D model, and posed it .... then, I gave it some pop in AE.

SoulPlay Scattered

Created in Cinema 4D and Adobe Photoshop.

Just playing around in Adobe After Effects.

Random Lines

Created in Processing, using connected, random points along two lines.

Night Before Christmas

First off, I'll admit that a lot of this video is really bad ... I was brand new to After Effects and I was pushing my limits. I took as many of Andrew Kramer's tutorials as I could, and pieced them together, as creatively as possible, to form a story. I then burnt this story to DVD and gave it as a Christmas gift. Let's count the Video Copilot tuturials, in order ... Smoke Screen, Disintegration, Flip-Book Motion, Earth Zoom, Day to Night Conversion, Submerged, Frosty Breath, 3D Camera Projection, 3D Light Casting ...

Christmas DVD Menu

The DVD intro/menu that I made, in After Effects, for part of a Christmas present.

SoulPlay Ball

Created in After Effects using the first SoulPlay logo ever !! Music by Dizzee Rascal.

Somebody Mashup

The client asked that I make the Gotye song more interesting and unique. The beginning includes music from Musica del Cuerpo. The end is someone elses work, whom I would love to credit, but, unfortunately, I don't know the name of the artist. Edited in Logic 9.

Ray Charles Medley

This is just one of a few versions I made for a client, with the goal of mashing Ray Charles' Georgia on My Mind, and Night Time is the Right Time together. Edited in Logic 9.

DVD Intro

The intro for a DVD that I made as part of a birthday gift. The end shows two of the transitions you would see when you selected one of the three menu buttons (Lucky Duck and Milla Vanilla). Programs used were Photoshop, After Effects and Soundtrack Pro.

SoulPlay Barbed Wire

I made this when I was first playing with 3D layers in After Effects. It's based on a tutorial by Andrew Cramer, of Video Copilot, though I made my own variations on the theme.

Vector Tile

This was made entirely in Illustrator, and was loosely based off of a photograph I saw of a tile.

Mother's Day

I made this in Illustrator. It was the jewel case cover for a CD that I made my Mom for Mother's Day.

Happy Birthday

A birthday card that I made in Adobe Illustrator.

interMod Flyer

Developed as a flyer/card for the promotion of interMod studios. Photoshop was used for the photographic elements, After Effects for the graphics, and Illustrator for the text and overall layout.

Psycho

When I put this together I was rehearsing for a contemporary dance version of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. The show's artistic director, Lane Hunter, chose a piece of music by Go Percussion for part of the soundtrack. This video's music, which I made in Apple Logic, is meant to sound like the before mentioned song by Go Percussion. The visual elements, including the falling and splattering rain, the rain drops streaking down the glass, and the text, were all created and composited in After Effects.

Glowing Molten Sphere

Something I created in After Effects, without anything necessarily in mind.

Star Burst

Created and composited in Adobe After Effects.

SoulPlay Traffic Light

Created and composited using After Effects. The background footage is real, but everything else is generated using shapes and filters.

Splash Text

I took a concept of Andrew Cramer's, from Video Copilot, and modified it slightly. Created in Adobe After Effects.

Tangled Intro

This was meant to be the intro for one of my videos when it was played at the Polaris Dance Theatre show, Tangled. The elements were created in Autodesk Maya and then composited in After Effects.

Tracking Test

I captured some footage on the way home from work, with my iPhone 4, and then set out to integrate text and other elements into the scene. The first step was tracking. I used Nuke, with its planar and point trackers. Tracking was a lot more difficult than expected, the reason for which, I now realize, may have been partially because I didn't correct for any rolling shutter (the iPhone has a CMOS sensor). I painted a clean plate and/or sign for the street car in Photoshop, and composited everything together in Nuke.

Chessboard

This is an admittedly short shot, that will hopefully, eventually be one small part of a bigger picture. The scenery in the background, other than the clouds, which are in an image sequence, is a composite of still images (if you don't believe me, just watch the bush, which should be moving). I modeled, textured and rendered the chess pieces in Maya, and composited everything in After Effects.

Ghost of Me

Created entirely in Adobe Photoshop.

Moulded Skull

I was experimenting with sculpting and painting in ZBrush.

Open Doors

The light at the end of the dark tunnel ... new doorways ... new opportunities. Modeled and rendered in Maya, and then altered in Photoshop.

"Those who live in the past limit their future."

interMod Concepts

A letterhead I designed for interMod Studios.

SoulPlay Ice

Brrrrr ... Created in Adobe After Effects.

Psyko Pendant

I was part of a contemporary dance version of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho, titled Psyko. I threw this together in Photoshop, and, printed much smaller, it helped to make the pendants that were given as gifts to the other dancers.

Broccoli Tee

Pilates ... It's like your vegetables. Created in Photoshop.

Farmer's Moon

A composition of three different elements into one, using Photoshop.

MJ Construct

I designed this flyer for a set of dance workshops I wanted to do. I created it in Photoshop.

Tap Piece

This was quite a challenge, as I was asked to combine the following songs for a tap dance routine .... An original Broadway cast recording from Five Guys Named Moe, Shout, from Sister Act, You Can't Stop the Beat, from Hairspray, Seize the Day, from The Newsies, and Hit Me Up, from Happy Feet. The fades that you hear aren't actually part of the mix, I just wanted to give you the transitions without you having to listen to the whole song.

SoulPlay Plate

I created this as a texture, in Photoshop, and then projected it onto a simple plane, placed a couple lights in the scene and rendered it in Maya.

Potluck Flyer

A flyer for a going-away potluck that I made in Illustrator.

Haunted Hallway

Happy Halloween. Welcome to this hall of tricks and treats.

Monster Masquerade Ball

An invite for a Halloween/Birthday party, made in Photoshop.

Mom Birthday Card

A birthday card for my Mom. Photoshop.

Rain - Beatles Tribute

This was how I revealed my parents' gift, concert tickets to Rain, the travelling Beatles tribute band. It was created for DVD, so it's rendered in standard definition format. I used After Effects and Soundtrack Pro. Music by the Beatles, of course.

Fluid Sphere

I was trying to create a water-like blob, but entirely in After Effects.

BUST

This was part of a gift that I made. The recipient loved BUST magazine, so I emulated the cover and used some creative juices to go from there. I could not find the original project files, so I rendered this from a DVD image (mpeg file). Programs used include Motion and Soundtrack Pro. Music by Blind Melon.

Meteor Strike

Using a tutorial by Andrew Kramer, of Video Copilot, I captured my own footage on my iPhone4 and created my own version. Maya and After Effects. No audio.

TicTacToe

The only thing real hear is the chalkboard. Everything else was created and composited in Photoshop. Raise a glass ... here's to relationships.

Smash Mouth

This image began as a photograph. I then took it into Photoshop for masking, coloring and shaping, and finally finished it using Illustator. Originally I was thinking about the impact that social media has had on everyone, though, looking at the piece now, it makes me think of a lot of things.

Breaking Me

A copycat intro/promo video that I created in After Effects. I would argue that I know the elemental periodic table better now than I did in General and Organic Chemistry.

Rock and Rose

Part of Father's Day card that I made in Photoshop, for a music lover.

P38

A vector drawing of a P-38 Lightning, done in Illustrator. It was printed at a larger scale and framed, for use as a gift. The name on the plane was historically accurate, and had significant sentimental meaning to the receiver.

1970 MGB

When I was younger, my parents had a 1970 MGB. The coolest thing about that MG, other than the fact that it was a covertible with a peppy 4-cylinder engine and rack and pinion steering, was that it was built when they still were putting on those amazing, chrome bumpers. I made this in both Illustrator and Photoshop, as part of a Father's Day card for my Dad.

Boxers

Taken from a photograph of my Mom's father and his brother, when they were young. Entirely in Illustrator.

Transition

This image shows the progress/stages through creation of the third and final of the flyers that I designed for the annual Loveless Intensive. This one was never used/completed. Programs utilized include Photoshop and ZBrush.

Couple Kiss

Growing Arabesque

The second of the flyers that I did for an ongoing, annual dance workshop/class. Again, done completely in Illustrator.

Growth Me Better Stronger Now

The first of 2-3 flyers that I did for an ongoing, annual dance workshop/class. I know ... SO inspiring. I did this totally in Illustrator.

Steamboat House Illustration

This illustration was done in Illustrator, using a digital photograph as a base. The leaves, branches, etc. were done using custom brushes.

NE House Illustration

This illustration was done in Illustrator, using a digital photograph as a base. The leaves, branches, etc. were done using custom brushes.

House Remodel Mock-up

I was helping my parents to visualize their house remodeling project. The result is not bad for slapping it out fairly quickly, though the remodel is currently in progress, so we'll have to see how close I came when everything is completed ... Photoshop and Maya.

Battlestar Galactica

I know, the title gives it away. It's quick mock-up, that hopefully looks familiar. What can I say ... the show was a guilty pleasure of mine for a while.
This image is entirely 2.5-D (no 3D elements), and was done in After Effects.

Battlestar 3D

A variation on the previous Battlestar Galactica image, involving true 3D rendered text and volumetric light. Made in Maya.

Clock Model

A small, unfinished piece of another work in progress. Autodesk Maya.

Cone Model

A construction cone I modeled, in Maya, as part of another project I've been playing with.

SoulPlay Ashtray

This image was based off an ashtray I aquired in Holland.
I'm fairly happy with the results, though the caustics could admittedly use some work. Autodesk Maya.

Alexis Logo

I played with textures, lighting and bump-maps (Z-Brush and Autodesk Maya) in order to make the Alexis Foods logo 3-dimensional.

Polaris iChange Promo

A promo for Polaris Dance Theatre's show iChange ... compiled from a bunch of standard-definition footage. The music is arranged/composed by Robert Guitron, though I took a few liberties while editing the sound. Final Cut Pro and Logic.

Devine Funk Promo

I threw this video together in a few hours, using footage captured on two different cell phones. I also mixed/mashed the music that accompanies it. Final Cut Pro and Soundtrack Pro.

All-Angles Design

Developed with my buddy Mikah's All-Angles Design company in mind ... Maya and After Effects.

allanglesdesign.com

A very short animation, meant for a Flash website, done in After Effects. No audio.

Tracy Underwood - Venus Teaser 2

The second Venus teaser. After Effects and Soundtrack Pro.

Tracy Underwood - Venus Teaser 1

I worked with local singer Tracy Underwood, and her manager, to throw-out a couple of promo ideas for her album. After Effects and Soundtrack Pro.

SoulPlay Productions Intro

This intro/promo sequence may look familiar to you ... I was imitating something else that I saw and liked. I'm not completely satisfied, and would make the camera movement more dynamic if I did it over again, but it's worth sharing. Maya, After Effects and Soundtrack Pro.

Polaris Commercial

This video was edited from pre-recorded, standard-definition, DV footage. There are some effects and text composited on top of it, and a custom-made soundtrack to go along with it. The commercial aired on Comcast television in September of 2010. Final Cut Pro, After Effects and Garage Band.

Banana Wire

It's a banana ... it's a wire ... it's a banana and a wire at the same time. I still ain't figured that shit out. This piece was done almost completely in Illustrator, with photographic references.

Workout Mix

A snippet from another synchro routine mix.

Butt Mix

Just a small part of a mix that I made for a MAC synchronized swimming routine.

Wake Up

Part of a mix I made that hasn't been used for anything yet, aside from one of my alarm sounds.

Urban Jungle

The first part of a mash-up I did for the A-WOL, Art in the Dark, Tungali show. If I remember correctly, this is back when I was using Sony Soundforge to do my sound editing.

Polaris - Hand Picked Preview

This was a short video that Polaris had me make to promote one of their studio shows. It was shot using a Canon HV40, and HFM31. All editing was accomplished using Final Cut Pro, and I think I used GarageBand to chop the music.

Polaris - Tangled Promo

A promotional video for Polaris' show, Tangled. I was only one of a couple videographers capturing the event, so the footage comes from multiple sources. Video editing was done in Final Cut Pro, and the music was conceived in Soundtrack Pro.

Wobbly Dance

Wobbly Dance performing at Polaris' Simple Pleasures. This was shot using a Canon HV40 (high def) and edited primarily in Final Cut Pro. The intro was created and composited in Photoshop and After Effects.
